چکیده
Eric Yeatman Optical and Semiconductor Devices Group, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2AZ, United Kingdom We propose a new way to deliver power to biomedical implants in order to address the higher energy requirements of microsystems with actuation functions such as drug release or mechanical adjustment of prosthetic devices. The method is based on ultrasonic power delivery, the novelty being that actuation is powered by ultrasound directly rather than via electrical form. The device consists of a mechanical oscillator which vibrates in response to incoming ultrasonic waves, and then converts these oscillations into stepwise motion of a mechanical actuator through oblique impact. Therefore, unlike conventional wireless power delivery or energy harvesting techniques, the proposed system is purely mechanical and does not include accumulation and storage of electrical energy or the conversion of energy from mechanical to electrical form, making it simpler and more efficient. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

MEMS Based Broadband Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Energy Harvester (PUEH) for Enabling Self-Powered Implantable Biomedical Devices.
Acoustic energy transfer is a promising energy harvesting technology candidate for implantable biomedical devices. However, it does not show competitive strength for enabling self-powered implantable biomedical devices due to two issues - large size of bulk piezoelectric ultrasound transducers and output power fluctuation with transferred distance due to standing wave. Here we report a microele...
متن کاملAutonomous/Semi-Autonomous Navigation System of a Wheelchair by Active Ultrasonic Beacons
This paper describes the autonomous and semiautonomous navigation system of a powered wheelchair for disabled people and nursing staffs. In order to detect its position reliably, this system utilizes active ultrasonic beacons on ceiling. 2 receivers on a wheelchair measures the time-of-flight of the ultrasonic pulses from 2 beacons. Since the distances from only 1 beacon can be obtained at once...
متن کاملKinetic study of unsaturated ketones epoxidation with hydrogen peroxide through the inverse phase transfer catalysis and effect of ultrasonic waves in this epoxidation
Kinetic study of epoxidation of unsaturated ketone of mesityl oxide was studied by usingHydrogen peroxide in the presence of dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB) as aninverse phase transfer catalyst. The reaction was carried out in the two-phase media of waterheptanewith 1:1 ratio in 25 °C. It was found that the order of reaction for mesityl oxide forketone concentration in the range of 0.0...

متن کاملA simple and novel method for acoustic streaming power measurement of ultrasonic horn
Ultrasonic horn with transfer of acoustic wave into an aqueous solution results in unique properties. When, transfer of sound wave into a liquid results in liquid movement in the direction of wave propagation which gradually loses its energy due to the viscous friction. This wave motion induces a flow which is known as acoustic streaming or micro-streaming. In this article, a simple innovative ...
